The hike was SO steep that I had looked nowhere but at my feet, and the never-ending path stretching up in front of me, for the last 20 minutes. Finally, barely able to breathe, I paused to grab a sip of water and try to catch my breath, when it hit me how high up I was.
Legs burning, I slowly turned around, trying not to lose my footing on the loose shale, and what I saw took the rest of my breath away.
Winding away from me was the path I had just climbed, and then beyond that was an expanse of rugged mountain peaks speckled with cloud shadows.
Without even realizing it, I had hiked straight into a postcard!
