The Grand Rotunda           Central Library, Los Angeles, California

The Richard Riordan Central Library, built in 1922, is one of the most beautiful buildings in Los Angeles. Sphinxes greet you at the main entrance and a colourful 1933 mural swaths the grand rotunda on the 2nd floor. The adjacent children’s section, that looks like the Oxford University reading room on steroids, also has a stunning painted ceiling, murals, and shelves made of dark wood.
