Love Lost

A quiet place in the heart of the city, The Garden of Remembrance occupies a plaza on 2nd Avenue at University Street in downtown Seattle. The understated memorial, made up of 19 black granite slabs, elegant plantings, and a system of waterfalls, channels, and pools, is dedicated to the more than 8000 residents of Washington State who have died in battle since World War II.

Engraved in the smooth black stone are the names of the fallen soldiers, and innocent, heart-wrenching quotes taken from letters sent to loved ones waiting for their return.
